On September 2nd 2009 the City of Albany had it's third shooting murder within a period of only 21 days

This is the third gun murder in Albany in less than a month.

On August 13th 32 year-old Henry Ferrell was shot to death at 158 Western Avenue just west of Washington Park in the City of Albany.

On August 30th 27 year-old Zechariah Banks was shot to death at 327 Second Street in Albany's West Hill neighborhood.

On September 2nd 18 year-old Kyleal Avery was found shot to death around 17 Magnolia Terrace in the Delaware Avenue neighborhood of Albany.

The murder of 18 year-old Avery is Albany's sixth murder of 2009.

There were ten murders in Albany in 2008.

In 2008 Albany had a higher homicide rate than New York City.

Don't believe your lying eyes, just keep repeating what Hizzoner and APD Chief Jimmy Tuffey want you to believe when they keep desperately blurting 'violent crime is down'.

Huummmmmm?

UPDATE (none / 0) (#1)

Suspect is arraigned on manslaughter charge and weapons charge - not murder.

New reporting has the APD saying the discharge of the 38 caliber handgun into the chest of young Kyleal Avery was accidental and not intentional.

The charges are Manslaughter in the 2nd and Criminal Possession of a weapon in the 3rd, both are Class D felonies.

My question is what are a group of teenagers doing with a 38 caliber pistol on Magnolia Terrace at 7:00 PM on a Wednesday evening?  You need a handgun permit to have a weapon like that.  Where did it come from?

When is Jerry Jennings going to finally get around to implementing the recommendations of the Albany Gun-Violence Task Force?

The irony here is super thick.  While Jerry debates challenger Corey Ellis at the public library - Jerry's busy blurting he's all about the kids - and teenagers are shooting each other with handguns in the Delaware neighborhood only blocks away.

Kinda makes Jerry's tee vee commercial with all the Albany High alum saying "Jerry raised us" look like complete and utter bull$hit.

The Jerry tee vee commercial's tag line is "there's more to be done".  Damn right and you've had 16 years to do it.  Why the hell isn't it done?  Why hasn't Jerry implemented the recommendations of the Gun-Violence task force?  How much longer do the citizens of Albany have to wait?  How many times does Jerry get to take the exam before people finally figure out he can't pass?

Irony here is super-thick.
