"It must be remembered that there is nothing more difficult to plan, more doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to manage, than the creation of a new system. For the initiator has the enmity of all who would profit by the preservation of the old institutions and merely lukewarm defenders in those who would gain by the new ones." Machiavelli
Mayor Jennings' Budgeting - Know When to Say WhenBy DIA, Section News
Recently an employee of the Convention Center Authority resigned from that job and got a new one. Smart move since the Authority will be a done deal soon. Where did she find new work? City Hall, of course. Even got herself a pay raise. I guess all that expertise she picked up while the convention center authority sat on its hands was considered valuable in City Hall and she is the new Deputy City Clerk.
Now I'm sure you are thinking, "with the looming budget crisis for the city, did we really need a Deputy City Clerk...can we afford such a luxury?". This is a good question. But the even better question is, "What happened to the previous Deputy City Clerk?" Here is the answer: Jerry Jennings got his Board of Estimate and Apportionment together and created a new position in City Hall. That is what you do when facing a budget crisis, increase the budget to create more patronage jobs! The BoEaA voted 4-1 in favor of creating the new position. Shawn Morris was the only no vote. So, the old Deputy City Clerk got a new job, the convention center employee got the Deputy's job and everything was good in Jennings' adminstration. This is why we need a new mayor. We are facing back to back 30% tax increases. I maintain that there are plenty of easy cost cuts we can make to balance the budget. Jennings has been spending our money like a there is a limitless supply and even this most recent example shows that he has no intention of stopping. So, either vote him out or expect to pay up. Your choice.
