There is another type of human killing that is all but acceptable -- but plagues all Albany neighborhoods -- the automobile "accident".
Many more people will die in Albany this year, because of private cars then due to murders, suicides, and stray bullets combined. Statistically, 3-4x more people will die from car accidents then bullets in our city.
The experts say 40% of those fatal "accidents" are caused by the consumption of alcohol or drugs. The other 60% are caused by excessive or unsafe speed, driver inexperience, drive inattention.
We don't talk about the callousness of automobile "accidents" (except drunk driving) or demand legislative action to prevent them. They are just "accidents" and view unpreventable. Yet, we know that most of them are preventable. They're not murder or suicide though -- they're tragedies. Automobile accidents are by far the nation's non-age related killer. More people die from age 3 to 33 of car crashes then any other causes. Where's the outrage?
