Soares is a Commie?

Metroland

Clyne insisted that Soares is young and has yet to come to the conclusion more seasoned prosecutors reach--that the only way to deal with criminals is severely. "Like the communist system in the economic realm ultimately it collapsed because it is not grounded in reality," said Clyne. "I don't feel that having a liberal approach to criminal justice is grounded. It is either too expensive or too dangerous."

Nice to see that local town of Bethlehem Democratic Chair, Democratic Board of Elections Commissioner, and part-time political theorist Matt Clyne is so supportive of our Democratic District Attorney David Soares. While he is at it, Clyne also notes that "Soares' liberal approach" to fighting crime is "emboldening" local criminals.

Couldn't fail but notice that Phil Steck's "grassroots" and "progressive" campaign has the full confidence and support of the Clyne brothers!

Black Templar shows again that is not a Steck fan.

So he (presumably) blinds his eyes to the fact that Steck is at least as progressive as any other candidate, and that he has at least as many grass-roots supporters and volunteers as any other candidate.

Steck also has the support of dozens of local politicians and party leaders, most of whom are less progressive.

Which shows that many political pros in the district recognize in Steck our next Congressman, even if they don't agree with him on everything.

Black Templar's candidate, whoever he or she is, cannot say any of this.

Maybe BT needs a new progressive, grass-roots candidate to support, like the excellent Phil Steck.

The comparison to Soviet economics is obviously over the top, but if you look at what Soares has done thus far and look at the public perception of his performance, Clyne's statements make alot of sense.

Soares is running out in front with the right ideas, but nobody in the criminal justice community is really running with him. Everyone got outraged when he stated something to the effect that the "war on drugs" is essentially a make-work program for cops.

Soares is right -- but sometimes in politics, being right is a liability. You have to be right, at the right time, with the right people on your side.

and off to the left, out of the shadows appears a frightening figure, the Grim Reaper - and he's coming this way...

Nah, it's just Paul Clyne heading for the popcorn stand.

I simply love that comment, "Like the communist system in the economic realm ultimately it collapsed because it is not grounded in reality..."  I mean, it's absolutely precious.

Somebody ought to tell Clyne that the word "communist" is out of style.  The new word that replaces it is "terrorist."  And he might want to know that the word "liberal" is not as politically incorrect as it used to be.  In fact, it is rapidly developing a positive connotation again.

Then again, Clyne was not talking to me.  But... who was he trying to address with this stuff?

Like any good conservative republican, mr clyne is just going along with the latest talking points.   Soares is a commie. And did you hear, Barack is a Marxist!

I would put in some witty remark here about how clyne's daddy's views about race are collapsing because they weren't grounded in reality, but that would be too easy.

I come to this board a lot, and thought that most of you were pretty consistent in your views (i.e. upholding a certain level of integrity for all elected officials), yet, I have not read one post condeming Soares for failing to release records from Troopergate in a timely manner.  I thought Soares, and members of this board, were all for open government - soares bitched slapped open government, yet, everyone here seems to be blind to it.

Soares is like a local Obama (none / 0) (#7)

He's an "outsider", who delivers a message that is honest and maybe even insightful. Of course his message has little to do with the administration of his office.

So we all get mad for a few days regarding specific incidents, but in the end he gets a pass because his message/vision brings us hope or whatever.

At the end of the day, it doesn't even matter. Soares has the county political organs to make progress difficult or impossible. Obama has the US Congress.
