Harriman Pilot Payments

Hey Albany, you may have won the lotto. $5 million payout plus $11 million a year for life. All you need is the approval of our favorite Dem, Shelly Silver. If he gives the approval, Jerry Jennings has the winning ticket and you are very lucky (make sure to call all your friends in other parts of NY and thank them for the bailout if this happens).

If it doesn't happen, you should ask yourself why Jerry Jennings can get bills passed in the Republican controlled Senate but not in the Assembly. And since the Senate will shortly be controlled by dems as well, you should ask yourself if it is a good idea to have the least popular democrat in the state as your mayor.

Cheers.

Update [2008-6-25 8:18:23 by DIA]: Looks like Albany won the lotto and can put off our financial woes for a few more years. Now if we can just get some competent management in place, get out of the garbage business and not build a money losing convention center, things are looking good. Especially if you are one of the first in line to get your hands on that extra money. Too bad its a short line and it dosen't involve any of our neighborhoods.

Looks like Albany can now close the landfill.

Seeing that $5 Million is the realistic bottom line annual profit the landfill generates, now Albany can close it and get out of that dirty business without being harmed financially.

In fact, the $11 million annual PILOT payment from the Harriman campus will actually be double the landfill's profit.

Remember, it was Nitido who said the landfill operations overhead cost was between five and eight million.

When that's deducted from the gross revenue it generates, thirteen million, the resulting figure, leaves you with either eight million or five million in profit.

So either way, the PILOT money from Harriman will bring the city at least three to six million more than the landfill does.

So which wise guy out there can come up with a reasonable explanation for why the landfill filled up with six extra years of garbage in nine years? (15 years worth of dumping in only nine years)

Anyone think that more than a few trucks missed the scales?

Like an extra six years worth of traffic?

Hmm... wonder where that money went...

what you are suggesting is verging on actual research and reporting.

And we can't have that here.

so, repeat after me.  The landfill makes $15 million a year and contributes 10% of the city of Albany's budget.  keep saying it and clicking your heels together and pretty soon the TU will have you on board.   How does Associate Editor sound?

"The landfill makes $15 million a year and contributes 10% of the city of Albany's budget."

Whatever was I thinking! Silly me.

So where do I get in line to make my 'donation' to Suddaby, Bruno, et al?

About the TU thing... I do know that the Johnstown Flood happened in PA, but for some uncanny reason Rex thinks it occurred in Ohio.

What do I know anyway? Rex must be right. After all he is 'The Editor'

This reminds me of those sad folks you read about who win the lottery and are broke five years later.

No matter how much money comes in the door, continued financial mismanagement will piss it all away. The need for sound fiscal management doesn't change because of this. On the contrary.

I'm sure the extra money won't help city finances one way or another, and they'll continue to cry foul when the state takes away their landfill, and tells them to truck on it off to Allied Waste's Seneca Meadows facility.

:)
