"It must be remembered that there is nothing more difficult to plan, more doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to manage, than the creation of a new system. For the initiator has the enmity of all who would profit by the preservation of the old institutions and merely lukewarm defenders in those who would gain by the new ones." Machiavelli
The Letter of the LawBy DIA, Section News
When Jack Abramoff was recently sentenced for his role in his gambling/wire fraud/murder for hire scheme in Florida (he still hasn't been sentenced for his DC antics) he asked people to write letters to the judge on his behalf. You know you are in trouble when people write letters like this:
Over many years, I've known a far different Jack that the profit-seeking megalomaniac portrayed in the pressAnd that was from a congressman. Ouch. He is going to prison. Recently our own Mayor Jennings has run into a little heat of his own since he has once again broken his promise to the people of Albany and is proposing using more of the Pine Bush as a garbage dump. So, like Abramoff, he's gotten some people to write letters. To the press. What people are writing on his behalf? His employees. Mr. Bruce thinks we all should know his boss is really cool and is just breaking his promise to all of us for our own greater good. I am writing to comment on the April 4 editorial cartoon that was a less than flattering portrayal of Mayor Jerry Jennings in relation to the Pine Bush Preserve. If anyone thinks the mayor isn't concerned about the Albany Pine Bush Preserve, they need a brief history lesson. And then he gives you the history lesson. For some reason he leaves out the bit about promising to dedicate the land to the Pine Bush and then breaking the promise. But he does use the "don't worry, we'll make more Pine Bush" argument to say why its ok to fill this 10 acres with garbage. How come my employees never say such nice things about me?
